OUTSCALING OF RICE-BASED FARMING SYSTEM (Rice + Duck)

The Local Government Unit under the leadership of Hon. Lucille Angelus Guillen-Yapo through the Municipal Agriculture Office in partnership with the Department of Agriculture NCES Abulug conducted a technical briefing earlier today at the Municipal Gymnasium for farmer beneficiaries of Brgy Capannikian, Tabbugan, Nagsabaran, Sto.Niño and San Antonio with regards to the “OUTSCALING OF RICE-BASED FARMING SYSTEM (Rice + Duck). Out of the 34 rice-based barangays (Barangays that are dependent on agriculture/farming) in the Municipality, two among them-Barangay Union and Mabnang were initial recipients of the said technology have already yielded positive results: improved soil aeration and soil quality; improved fertility and structure of soil that were attributed to droppings of the ducks; population dynamics of harmful and beneficial organisms did not affect yield of rice and only 2.92 percent damage has been observed; and significantly reduced the population of golden apple snail to name a few. The Honorable Mayor thru the Municipal Agriculture Office aims to adapt above-mentioned technology to all 34 rice-based Barangays to promote and attain organic and sustainable farming/agriculture in the municipality.
